Micromax eyeing new markets for its Android lineup

Ever hear of Micromax before? Even if you consider yourself a pretty big Android fan, the name might have missed your radar so far – certainly, we haven’t covered the company’s hardware in any appreciable manner. There’s a very good reason for that, as our focus on phone markets doesn’t often take a close look at what’s happening in India, where Micromax is based. From the sounds of things, though, the company is setting itself up to become a much more familiar name to wider and wider audiences, as it begins a global push into new markets.
Moving beyond the subcontinent, Micromax plans to begin sales in Russia and Romania by the end of the year. It may have its work cut out for it in trying to get a slice of the pie in these already crowded markets, but if it sees success, Micromax plans to continue expansion into additional European nations.
Up top there is one of the company’s latest handsets, the Canvas Turbo A250. It sports a five-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 1.5GHz quad-core SoC, and a 13-megapixel main camera. And yes, Micromax got Wolverine to help sell them. In India, the phone sells off-contract for what works out to only about $325, so we’re very curious to see what luck the company may have at bringing affordable, comparatively high-end devices to shoppers all around the world.
