HTC delivers Android 4.4 One Google Play Edition
code to Google

Just about two weeks ago, we heard from HTC regarding its efforts to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the HTC One in its various editions. By the schedule the manufacturer laid out, carrier editions of the One would see their updates land within about three months, the developer edition of the phone would get its 4.4 update by the end of November, and the Google Play Edition of the phone would see its own… by today. Well, it’s still not available to end users quite yet, but aware that we must be wondering what’s taking things, HTC posted an announcement to Twitter this afternoon confirming that it’s finished work on that One GPE update and has sent the code off to Google.
We know – how do often do you hear that an OEM has handed-off a new update and it still takes weeks before it’s available? Granted, but that’s with carriers; we’re dealing with Google now, and so we don’t expect it will be long at all before owners of the One GPE (and surely, there must be one or two of you?) see this update start going out.
Hopefully, this is a sign that the rest of HTC’s schedule is still on-track, and the remainder of these updates will be out by the end of January at the latest.
