LG G2 Review: The Most powerful Device Of 2013

Lately, all Android phones were looking the same to us. Most had similar placement of keys and front frame. But now LG has brought a different looking phone to the Indian market. Called G2, this one does not have physical keys along the sides, top or the front of the phone. Instead, those keys are placed on the back, right below the camera. At first, we thought this is a bit gimmicky. But after testing the gadget, we found that these keys are quite useful and easy to use. The phone carries a lot neat features that make it a decent buy - so let's have a quick look.

Looks

Dressed in black, the built of this phone is top notch and LG seems to have got it right. Yes, the phone does attract fingerprints but nothing that a quick wipe cannot remove. The front sports a large 5.2-inch touch display, which puts G2 in the phablet category. The LG logo is placed underneath it. All the hard-press function keys are, however, at the back. These can be used for various functions such as volume modulation or taking a picture. LG G2 also has dual cameras - one at the front and a 13 MP one at the back.

Performance

LG has managed to give this phone a lot of goodies. While the hardware configuration consists of a 2.26 GHz Quad-core CPU, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard memory, the operating system is Android Jelly Bean. There has been news that the G2 will get KitKat upgrade in the coming months and users can upgrade free of cost. To bring the phone out of the standby mode, one can tap or knock the phone screen. Nine out of 10 times, the phone screen turns on when one is using the knock feature.

The Android OS works swiftly with this phone and it recognises screen taps and swipes efficiently. We did give it a hard time but to our amazement, the phone did not break a sweat and quickly adjusted to our swipe and slide demands. The 13 MP rear camera works well, too. We had a brilliant time clicking photographs outdoors and in well-lit rooms. Night shots were not too bad either. However, we do recommend using the flash in low light conditions for best results.

Verdict
All in all, this phone has a vivid screen that is nice for both games and movies. The battery life is pretty decent and lasted us a day on 2G network. Just one small point - you might take a bit of time to get accustomed to the rear keys. The phone is now available in the market for Rs 36,700 and is a good buy for people looking for a high-end Android phone under the 40K price point.

LG G2 Limited Edition Red And Gold

A couple of days ago we’ve seen a golden LG G2 pop up on ePrice, serving as a solid indication of the manufacturer’s intentions for the near future. Fast forward to today, and the LG G2 gets not one, but two new color options, as depicted above (in red), and below (in gold).

Apparently, these two devices are LG’s way of celebrating the Chinese New Year — which, by the way, will happen on January 31, 2014 — and are the exact same LG G2 on the inside like the one we already reviewed. However, the back of these phones is, as you can see in the renders above and below, textured, opposed to the shiny finish on the regular model. This will not only improve the grip but will help fight some of those ugly fingerprints.

If you’re in Singapore, you will be able to grab one of these two starting January 18, for 898 SGD (roughly $705) unlocked. As a reminder, the LG G2 packs a 5.2-inch Full HD screen and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, helped by 2GB of RAM, with a 13MPOIS shooter on the back.

Looks like there’s really no day passing by without some Nokia Normandy news, sighting, or leak.

The Normandy is expected to run some sort of Android build (a la Amazon tablets) but that doesn’t stop Nokia from trying to standardize the user experience across its devices (read Lumia), making the Normandy interface very Tile-rich. The screenshot above depicts these tiles (a lot of which should be familiar to you already) on the left, where we see the alleged home screen of the upcoming device: a combination of tiles, icons, and folders.

On the right we see either a notification shade, a notification center, or a special home screen mode (might even be the recent apps or recent notifications menu). It is not clear, as @evleaks only unveiled that these are the “two ways to interact with Normandy”. Nonetheless, there are a lot of things going on, from missed calls, to Facebook notifications, games, Twitter shortcuts, messages, Skype, and Calendar appointments.

HP announces the Slate6 and Slate7 VoiceTab; no 5.5-incher this time.

Detailed specs aren’t officially available just yet, but HP does mention quad-core chips, support for dual-SIM standby, and stereo front-facing speakers. Based on what we’ve seen already, that SoC is likely to be a 1GHz Marvell component. We’ve heard that both models should have 720p displays, 16GB storage (with microSD expansion), and five-megapixel rear cameras (with2MP front-facers).

Despite their screen sizes, HP still insists that the phablets are “slim enough to fit nicely in the pocket.” 

Launch plans for the pair put them in India next month, and it remains to be seen where they might pop up thereafter.

HP’s hitting an interesting assortment of notes with these two: large screens, voice call support, and dual-SIM. lt may that resonate with the Indian consumer

 While that remains to be seen, there’s still one more unknown that could easily dictate the fate of these VoiceTabs: pricing. We’ll update you if we learn anything there.

Apple iPhone 5s vs LG G2

Introduction

Tired of being left in the shadows, LG came out of hiding very recently to unleash its most prized device in recent memory – the powerhouse of a smartphone in the LG G2. It’s a device that’s not to be messed with, seeing that it’s stuffed with some amazing hardware under the hood to give other flagship devices a good run for their money. As usual, Apple’s latest prodigy in the iPhone 5s is looking to establish itself as the premier smartphone to beat in the landscape. It might look exactly like its predecessor, but it packs all the necessary incremental upgrades to give even the mighty LG G2 some heated competition.

Design

Okay, so the iPhone 5s recycles its design, which means that there’s nothing really new with it, but despite that, it still proves to be the more attractive device between the two. Why’s that? It’s because it’s compact in size, solidly constructed, and employs premium materials – quality elements that help strengthen its stature of being a high end phone. On the flip side, the LG G2 is pretty amazing in its own right, especially how it decides to mix it up with the placement of its power and volume buttons. However, at the end of the day, it’s still a polycarbonate constructed smartphone that lacks the elegance and sturdiness of the iPhone 5s’ design.

And then there’s the matter of size! Comparatively, they’re pretty compact when you think of their respective screen sizes – albeit, the LG G2 is undoubtedly longer, wider, and thicker. Despite that, we appreciate how the curved edges of the LG G2 are more comforting than the sharp bezel around the iPhone 5s.
Quickly looking around their bodies, it’s evident that they share many common things, like their 3.5mm headset jacks and speaker grills, but they do feature their own unique things. For starters, there’s a biometric Touch ID finger print sensor incorporated into the home button of the iPhone 5s, which offers us a unique and hassle-free way of unlocking the phone. Meanwhile, the LG G2 packs an always useful IR blaster to double it as a universal remote – perfect for those occasions when the remote control goes missing!

Display

Size alone is staggering between these two flagships! One is small, the other is ginormous. Arguably the two best looking displays out there, there’s a lot to like about the two displays, but at the end of the day, we’re still more fascinated by the display on the LG G2. So what do we have here? Well, it’s a 4-inch 640 x 1136 Retina Display on the iPhone 5s, which is pleasant and all, but lacks the intimidating figure of the G2’s 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 advanced IPS LCD display. Frankly, it’s the higher resolution of the G2’s display that makes it so much more prized over the iPhone 5s, but as we’ve detailed several times in other comparable reviews, the detail superiority of the 1080p resolution screen of the G2 is only apparent when we look at the two very closely. Viewing them from a normal distance, our eyes wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Putting them side-by-side, we do notice that the iPhone 5s’ screen is a smidgen brighter, which makes it more visible outdoors when the sun is present. It’s not bad with the G2’s display, honestly, seeing that we’re still able to make it out. When it comes to colors, we get more accuracy with the iPhone 5s – whereas the G2’s display emits colors that are cooler in tone. Worthy of being mentioned too, is the almost non-existent bezels around the sides of the G2’s display, which helps to minimize its overall size.

Samsung teases a new phone that’s fit, simple, elegant, and fast

As much as you’d like (and us too) for this to be the Galaxy S 5, we strongly believe it is not,

 because Samsung has never released two S-flagships in a year — and we don’t think they’ll

 start now — as well as because this is a video from Samsung Taiwan. Oh, and one little detail:

 the model number for theSamsung Galaxy J is clearly visible on the video.

As a recap, the Galaxy J is placed somewhere between the Note 3 and the S 4, and was 

exclusive to Japan’s NTT DoCoMo. It features a five-inch Super AMOLED display with Full

 HD resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 

32GB of storage, and Android 4.3 on-board alongside Samsung’s own TouchWiz. 

This is the the Samsung SC-02F, the same model number shown in the video.

So what do we have here, really? We’re guessing that at the time shown on the Gear

, which is 1p Monday, December 9, 2013 (probably Taiwan time), Samsung will announce 

it’s Galaxy J for Taiwan, or, will announce global availability for the phone, at a Taiwanese event.

How about that metal-looking back? While we’d love for the phone to have an aluminum

 back (and, why not, construction), we think that this might still be plastic, with a texture

 mimicking plastic: after all, the Japanese Galaxy J’s white version had the same back, 

and that’s what we think we see on this video. See below, and at the bottom!

The Galaxy Note 3 may be no Moto X, but Samsung still provides its users with plenty of options to help customize the Android’s look. Besides a whole rainbow of colors available for official cases, the phone itself is offered in three different shades: white, black, and pink. Between all the possible combinations of phones and cases, that’s a lot of choices to consider. Now we get word that even more variety is on the way, with Samsung revealing a pair of new Note 3 color options.

First up, we have rose gold, which looks a lot like the existing white Note 3, but with a bunch of new gold accents. You’ll see those on the phone’s rear logo, all the trim pieces, and all along the handset’s edge.

If that existing pink choice just wasn’t bold enough for you, you’ll definitely want to check out the new bold red Note 3. Like the pink before it, this is all-around color, even reaching the phone’s face (which all too often goes overlooked when introducing new colors).

While this all looks very official, showing up on Samsung’s site for Argentina, we’re not sure just yet about how the new colors might arrive. We’ve heard that the red Note 3 may go up for sale in early January, with the rose gold model following a couple weeks later. Eventually both should be available in most markets, though there may be some periods of exclusivity during that roll-out that may mean some nations/carriers see the phones before others.
